50 million people make up the creator economy — Only 1% of all internet users meaning this industry is bound to GROW.

But, despite the massive growth and huge desire for many to be creators, there is huge income inequality. (97.5% of YouTubers below poverty) This means few get the chance to explore and find their true calling as it remains a side gig.

Most creators end up chasing quick success rather than finding a calling.

The Current Batch of Creators has Zero Appetite for Risk

Many creators become influencers today to become popular and known — not bring any value to an audience. They all run towards the same categories.

The risk-taking appetite gets further offset as the system causes creators to chase likes/re-tweets & singular metrics to drive immediate validation, rather than play for long-term gratification.

The long game of trying to create a community through content that is ahead of its time in popularity is largely avoided. Things like “Physics simplified” and many technical topics never get created.

A Currency Built on Crypto Can be the Creativity Stimulant

I had highlighted a creator’s basic income as an answer in the past. But Crypto is an alternate. A point in Li Jin’s essay states that:

A DAO such as Collab Land could sell fractionalized NFTs and use the earnings to fund grants for high potential creators, who could give their social tokens to the DAO as collateral.

The global grant model to fund scientific research exists — the same can be made into DAOs to fund even technical content creators.

The Goal of Long Term Gratification can stimulate the true disruptive power of the Creator Economy Business Model.
