270 million households can make Security as a Service a Big Business

Ever since my closest tech colleagues in the security department told me about building great industrial security systems for ports and powerplants I used to wonder why the same was not available for the residents in India.

Everyone used to say that the Indian population could not afford expensive gear like CCTV cameras and that Indians would not value or adopt these state-of-the-art systems.

But, I always believed otherwise — growing up in the US has made me see that every nation that becomes developed will need basic home security systems just like they need food.

The nation is trending in the right direction

India is a nation with over 270 million households and will soon have the largest middle class that has ever existed in history. At the same time, the cost of cameras, sensors, and security systems is dropping fast.

It doesn’t take much to see a growing population that is coming out of poverty may want such systems in their homes as the cost comes down.

End to End Security is only about stitching a solution

All it takes is for a player to offer CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and a set of gas leakage + electric sensors packaged as an end-to-end service — that will assure complete visibility and communication with local PD in case anything happens. Today each of these products is sold by local players as isolated individual pieces at high rates.

Maybe a product that helps customers protect and connect to what matters most — their families, homes, and businesses is the next big product in the sub-continent.
